kids-students give upIn the present times, tremendous changes have been seen in every walk of life. There has been an increase in competition in every stage of life, starting right from the time when a child goes to school to the later stages in life. During their years in school and college, the lives of students have become rife with stress and pressures and many of them have started giving up on studies and even learning. Many a times, it is noticed that the student under pressure even fails to participate in common classroom activities and discussions. It is hard to understand the psychology of a child but there can be a variety of reasons why young students lose their interest in learning. Here, it is the duty of the parents and teachers to delve deeper into the cause so that they can rectify the situation with a relevant solution.

Here are the possible or vital reasons, why students give up on learning:

  1. High Competition

Students are coming across highly competitive environment these days, where everyone wants to be at the top. As a result, some of them are not comfortable with the idea of being unsure about concepts and they fear that they are not properly prepared to be evaluated in class or exams. This makes them adamant to learn at times as they fear being behind the others.

  1. Pressures and Expectations

Since parents, teachers and peer groups expect a lot from some students, they develop a block and stop learning at some stage as they are no longer able to bear the pressure and expectations. This can be another possible reason why students stop learning, even if they do not do this intentionally.

  1. Distractions

Another reason why some children give up on learning is that they get distracted by a number of things these days, including social media, gadgets, games and television. Students tend to waste their time on these things and ultimately end in losing their interest in learning.

  1. Comparison with others

When parents and teachers compare the children with others, they are actually hurting their self-esteem without even realizing it. The child may respond by mentally refusing to learn. It can rob them of their self confidence and this can have a negative impact on their learning abilities. Parents and teachers should be more mature and encouraging in their attitude.

  1. Frustration

Sometimes students are not able to understand a particular concept or simply lack interest in a subject, which has a detrimental impact on their learning abilities. Frustration and absence of self belief also come up as the main reasons why young students give up on learning despite being capable enough.

  1. Peer effect

Sometimes, students simply stop thinking about learning and studying because they want to look cool in their peer group, where being a successful learner is considered as an uncool thing to do. A large number of students succumb to this pressure and simply find solace in going with the crowd rather than standing alone.

Students might simply lose interest in learning, intentionally or unintentionally. This might have a detrimental impact on their academic goals. Therefore, teachers and parents must work together to solve such issues for the students.
